Hey, good to see Russell bring this up on Good Morning this morning! Too often Journo's get away with shoddy reporting.
(Not paid enough to be credible!? Now that's a statement about the decline of old media.)

Will it be a Democratic rout or did the polls tighten enough for the Republicans?
I think that, ultimately, we will all be disappointed that the American public still cannot see the current paradigm for what it is. A slim win for the Dems, but slimmer than we might hope.
(We had a 'US Election 2004' party at our flat. I still remember the horror as it became clear that Bush was going to be re-elected. Not only was it a real downer, it also instilled a certain amount of cynicism about American thought processes)
Will the fake robo-calls at 3am tactic work for the Republicans?
Yes, and so will the racist ads in Tennessee. See above.
Is the Senate out of the question for the Dems?
No, I'd give them a 40% chance.
What are the Dems about anyway?
Who knows. Despite years of Republican f-ups, a president who is pushing away even his most voracious supporters, uncountable scandals and the complete alienation of the Republican party from it's core values of individual and economic freedoms, the Democrats have completely failed to present an alternative. It's seems to be a choice between evil & stupid, or absent & apathetic.
Who should the American public be glad to see the back of?
Any incumbent.

Adding cameos by local celebs doesn’t add humour, and humour is why I watch comedy
Agreed. It only really works on established franchises where cameos are more about irony (Simpsons) or social commentary (Southpark.. brutally).
Now Futurama was a cartoon with class. And you can get the entire first 3 episodes from the Warehouse for less than $70! Swoon

Am I the only one who really doesn't care where it is, as long as we actually have one and it's close to a train station?
Am I also the only one that thinks that Allianz stadium design rulez? Who cares if it looks somewhat like a bedpan (I've never actually seen one, so I can't say). The sky-tower looks a syringe, but we all got over it.

You know I just don't think Hamish is right.
Hey, you actually read the comments and added something rational and on topic - so I can't complain!
Last night I watched a bunch of teenagers at a family party pimp a box of fireworks - as in open them up and combine ingredients together and generally piss about with them.
Ban them I say.
But... why? Because another family was ok with letting their teenagers experiment with them? Is that your decision?

By the way, you can let Simon Collins know what you think here:

By the way, from our little unit on a hill we have a view on a goodly portion of the city. With what I'm seeing you will never convince me that the majority of our population would actually wants to ban fireworks (what a bunch of hypocrites we must be). It's a beautiful night and the view is amazing.

Long time listener, first time caller. White, male, mid-twenties. Probably my opinion that irresponsibly using fireworks is (gasp) fun would be a good pick. Yeah, not ground-breaking, but it's hard when you're so mainstream it hurts (mmm, love that white boy middle-class angst).
Actually, I wanted to give you kudos for raising the issue of crap journalism. How lazy do you have to be! And whose editor lets an article with "Source: Info for NZ Muslims, on Yahoo Groups" at the end into print?
Thank god for the internet, where I expect to have my intelligence insulted.

And I think that's the real problem - like every other moral panic, the problem's always THEM never us, isn't it?
Exactly.

Or shall we go with a bogus "thin end of the wedge" argument
We're talking about all of the proposals that are getting publicity at the moment: raising the drinking age, banning party pills, forcing employers to remove unhealthy food vending machines, banning fireworks... I could go on. It's not such a thin wedge.
