I may just have yelled two words the BSA wouldn't be very happy about, in Cuba Mall. So sorry, darling.

Last night's CTV news. It's pretty depressing.

Pop quiz. Is this:
Key said the Government had a "clear picture" of what land would have to be abandoned but refused to name these areas or put a timeline on when the information would be available to the public.
more "10 000 homes will have to go, a number which I just pulled out of my arse", or actual... I don't know what to call that. Idiocy?

If you want your handcuff key back, you're going to have to solve a series of puzzles, each more fiendish than the last.
The terrifying thing about this scenario is its plausibility.

Am I that predictable? Yes, yes I am. Also, if anyone has seen the key lately?

Cool. It was either that or send Emma a slush fund for folks down there.
Heh, this morning I had texts asking for drinkies and gaming at our house tonight. That seems to be the stress response in our social group.
So yes, it'd be a "slush fund" alright.

The next person who says "Why are people still living in Christchurch" needs to turn it round and think about what they'd do in the same situation. You have friends, family, a job, kids in school - you can't just uproot all of that and just go somewhere else......
Stuff has a "what are you going to do?" poll up today. "I want to leave but I can't because of property or a job" is running around 25%.
So yeah, this is not to say "Don't offer help and beds and stuff", but if your comment includes the phrase "You should just", it's time to stop talking.
Also... the students? Are in the middle of exams. They'll not be digging us out in a hurry this time round. And dear gods, how TIRED they must be. This is the time when we need outside help coming in.

This time he correctly surmised (in my case and from talking to others here) that many people will be feeling powerless and that picking up the pieces is futile and more will leave. It's apparently a recognised psychological stage called Repetitive Crisis something (I can't remember the last word but you get what I mean).
Yeah, the utter weariness is palpable. Particularly as it's the same areas being worst hit, over and over. So again, our end of St John's St is fine, the south end is calf-deep in liquifaction. Our friends in New Brighton, their house looks just like it did on the 23rd of February, 18" of silt all through the yard. The idea of having to dig all that out again...

Today’s shakes were scary at the time, but tonight I just feel depressed about everything. I know we’re not actually back to square one, but it feels like it.
At least we’ve got power. And internet!
Yeah, same for us. Karl was saying it feels like we're back to Square Two. Kids are off school again, we're back on stored water and rationing. It's hard. It's really fuckiing hard.
