Now things are going back to "normal", how would Chch PASsers feel about meeting up for quiet drinks in the (hopefully) sun, say this coming Saturday afternoon?
Drat, I'm in Dunedin this weekend. Still sounds like a good idea :)

Well I've just been up on the roof and the chimney is a bit more serious than I thought - the neighbours have a good view and report it's been getting slowly worse with aftershocks. On the plus side, while there's a little tile damage it doesn't look like any of it will result in leaks. Will still organise a professional in to check everything out later in the week (anyone have a recommendation?)

@Lucy To be fair, their Chch building is right in central city and may well have been evacuated or something. (About a block from the 1st smaller pic in the Stuff article). I've seen footage which was probably filmed immediately after.

@Craig I've been very much thinking that.

Well it wasn't my house (mind, I'm in Sockburn/Upper Riccarton, depending on whether you're NZPost or a real estate agent), just a bit of breakage in the kitchen.

My father reckons that's the biggest he's felt since one I remember when I was just a nipper (so 20-odd years ago?) (that came from the alpine fault, from which we lived a short distance.)
Aftershocks continuing regularly, another one as I type this.

Until I stumble on something else that docks & disappears at the edge of my screen (I have the player at the top where I can just see the position marker creeping along, playlist down the right) Winamp has me.
Helps that it's portable - any time I reinstall Windows I can just copy the folder back in and take moment to set up the file associations :)

Any thoughts on the effect of that much money freeing up for re-investment more-or-less at once? It seems like a huge amount to me, but how does it actually compare to a typical say, month on the NZ markets?

34. Yow.
If I took it as of a few years ago, before
a) developing various compensatory social skills and
b) lapsing into relying on technology to remember phone numbers and birth dates and the likeor if I weighted my thinking on the questions about social situations
- away from the groups with whom I spend the most time and have acquired a certain amount of social status
- towards situations involving people I've never met before or associate with infrequently... it would be higher.

Someone here will be able to answer this quickly - what is the new acc rate(s)?

Someone wants to be careful - enough high-tech tools that don't need thumbs, we humans might not be all that useful any more.
