I suppose that it is about perceptions. Solid Energy is supposed to be a good Corporate citizen and obey the laws. If people want to protest against them then SE should meet them with well thought out arguments and logic.
If they will buy into paid informers against a group like SHV, who are virtually unknown out here in the sub-Bombays, then what sort of culture do they have there? Paid informants are kind of sneaky as Mr. Slack is insinuating.
People doing business with them would be entitled to be quite wary in future. -
I wonder if it is the newest celebrity accessory, a bit of porridge?
The extract from Salon reminded me that people seem to accept some level of punishment meted out by prisoners onto other prisoners, as though it is somehow a good thing. I can't recall how many times I've heard it said that "He won't last long inside, the cons will sort him out"
When those handing out the punishment were reviled when being sentenced. -
That's what you get the man who has everything.
Or a coffee plant and a civet

I didn't ask it to eat and squat
This could be a nice little earner for you Simon, kind of like the Fois Gras.

It's a bit precious isn't it? A reveiwer might note that it was an understudy playing the part and they might be expected to get better. The negative publicity this will generate is far worse than someone not quite there yet.
And people should know whether or not something is worth going to see, given that a Stall seat is 38 pounds
source.
What Craig said about critics is true as well, there was a guy who wrote for the Melbourne Age whose movie tastes were exactly opposite to my wife and I, if he panned it, we would like it. It is a very useful thing to know. -
Yeah, a little Hitchens goes a long way IMO.
A problem that he will be having is that his support for the Iraq war puts him close to the "Europe is doomed " camp which is very strong in America. So he's got the problem that the war he supports is used as a motivating factor by radical Islamists who in turn are used as a motivating factor by some of his pro-war fellows.
The Q and A asociated with the article is very interesting too since Hitchens says outright that he is a supporter of multi-culturalism and it is not doing it's job properly if it allows the growth of radicalism. That's not going to go down too well with the right-wing talk show hosts who see multiculturalism as the new communism. Might cause a few diary cancellations. -
There was a good point from Gareth Morgan this morning about who gets to invest the funds. I hope the Gummint is going to keep am eye on that, but overall it seems like a good deal.

Or is that so many oats?

Here's a first-hand account of kopi luwak
Nice link, Heather.
John Kenneth Galbraith, the Canadian economist, once said that Trickle Down Economics was like feeding a horse so much oats that sparrows could live off the products from the other end of the horse.
I can a see a connection here. -
and never come back to a good party
An important point Hadyn.
some would see filling threads with an incessant stream of "witty" comments as also closing down debate
Then some would be wrong. Give me a forum filled with "wit" rather than the sewer.
When you get pissed off on a forum it's best to just leave it alone for 2 or 3 days. There will always be another thread, as RB stated.
I am very sorry to see m and R go, I have never had so many shared laughs from an online conversation. They know what's best for them though and I wish them well on the voyage.
