  • Hard News: The March for Democracy,

I can only hope "real" New Zealanders repay with interest the cynical contempt Goff and his apologists with the same cynical contempt have shown them.

Yeah well I'm finding it increasingly hard not to feel cynical about the Maori Party and the way they've sold us down the river with the ETS. Not to mention the complete silence when the dumbest education minister we've ever had closes a Decile 1 bilingual school that has a high maori roll. Where are the cries of racism and disadvantage from the MP that would have greeted a decision like this in the past.

  • Hard News: Party Time, Excellent,

Personally I think you need to take this on the road and come to the provinces. There's probably 3 or 4 of us here in HB so we wouldn't need anything big:)

I saw Berline, Crary and Hickman in Dunedin in 198mumble.

I saw those guys when they came to HB. They even used my bass amp for the gig.

Loudest-Steve Earle the time before last with the Dukes in that bunker of a venue the Starlight Ballroom I think it was called in Wellington. Especially when they Breed. Had the bluegrass lovers running for the door.
Similar thing happened here in Napier when I played at a Cash tribute night and Jakob played Long Black Veil. Jeff the guitarist smiled halfway through the song, hit his pedals and all hell broke loose for his solo. Never seen so many older people hit the doors so quickly. It was great.

I'm glad some of you enjoyed Ry n Nick this week. Had a good seat for Welly and fell sick on Monday and am only back at school today so missed it. First time that's happened to me.

  • Field Theory: All White on the night,

Let's not overlook either the Black Sticks efforts this weekend in qualifying for the Hockey World Cup. And they probably have more chance than the All Whites. It's just so great though to see the round ball codes do so well.

  • Field Theory: All White on the night,

Well last night I had a gig in a local bar. The football was on much to my relief. Even better they stopped us playing during the match so basically I got paid to watch a fantastic game. How good is that? And my small claim to fame is that Andy Boyens who came on late in the game was in my team of 5 year olds I coached way back in the day.

  • Southerly: Seventy per cent Monteith's,…,

To my surprise, Blair even remained unfazed when I declared that the frailing banjo was a sadly overlooked instrument in the New Zealand musical tradition

The banjo is much maligned instrument round here I feel. Mention banjo and you get the ignorant response of Deliverence comments. Here in Napier there's a youngish woman playing frailing banjo covering a more Americana side of things. Have played a bit with her at acoustic evenings I co-organise and it's one of the coolest things.

Of course there are the banjo jokes (well jokes that apply to instruments like banjos, accordians etc.)
The difference between a banjo and an onion? No one cries when you cut up a banjo.
Perfect pitch-Throwing a banjo in a skip without it touching the sides.

Anyhow congratulations on a job well done David. It sounds great.

  • Hard News: Body image and the media,

And I also love the Huf house epi too (the ultra-efficient black&white German kit house).

He revisits this one next week on TV3.
