I think it was about 17 judges all told that presided over this case and all found the same.
It has been my personal experience that judges are extremely loathe to rule against another judge. They will contort themselves into pretzels to avoid it if possible
People would be interested to know what Karam shared privately with my uncle as to who he thought killed the family and why sometime around the trial.
But I ain't going there. I just thought I'd annoy you all.Surely, this amounts to 'abuse' under the rules RB? Yammis should spill the beans immediately or be banned!! "You have 10 seconds to comply"

Oliver Driver? 'Nuff said!
Oh, and BTW: congrats to RB, et al. (even tho' I feel stupid for saying it)
(I know I know: what kind of back handed compliment is that?) -
A Certain Bar, Quays, and Zanzibar ... yesindeedee!
And you're right, but I didn't want to make my post too long by adding qualifiers. We may have 'dressed up' when we went out but it was usually a mad dash from the car to the club, cos we knew we looked ridiculous. Until we got inside of course, and then it got serious, and everyone checked eachother out to see who looked 'fabulous'. That's why I think Emo is harmless, at least the kids are dressing up again to go out.
But as you will recall, the scene then wasn't that big. To expand on a point in Graeme Reid's blog: I recall being greatly disapointed on entering the Wag in London circa 87. Hyped up with the anticipation of years of reading about it in The Face I was surprised to find out it was tiny and no bigger or cooler than one of your clubs Mr Grigg! (That's a compliment to you, lest you be unsure).
Awaits comment from Mr Grigg: "Tiny? So they didn't let you into the other room - the big one - where the cool people were?"

While many figures played important roles in the process, notably David Trimble, Bertie Ahern and Gerry Adams, I believe Blair’s commitment while PM kept the process alive and progressed it to this weeks formation of a “power sharing” government in Belfast.
That will be his legacyTrue to a point, but England is a tabloid newspaper society. Whilst the intelligensia may appreciate his legacy, the hoi polloi will just think he's a prat who lost it.
I think he was generally great, but let hinmself down when he allowed his religion to cloud his judgement. I predict a lucrative future on various American/International foundations of a 'family values' nature.

What has outraged me though has been the very fact a bunch of British judges, who may not have even ever stepped foot in New Zealand, presume to pass judgment on our legal system.
But didn't we borrow our one from their one?
And in answer to an earlier question: two of the Appeal Court judges who ruled against Bain's previous appeal are now on the new Supreme Court; so no, I don't think they would have ruled the same as the Privvy Council.
But yes:
Bring on a republic ASAP!

Does anyone know/remember if David Bain chose for it [burning down the house] to happen? I presume it was his house so he must have consented.
No, it was the father's sister I believe. Yes, very strange - surely David was the heir?

Mr Grigg must have some great stories about NZ Payola??? One I heard, way back when:
Robin Lambert, then the big cheese at Sounds, used to 'bet' Record Companies a VCR (or similar) that a song would go #1. They'd say "this is a great song Robyn, but you know kiwis ... it won't go #1[wink wink, nudge nudge]". Robyn would reply: "I think you're wrong, it's got #1 written all over it" and so on, until a bet was made. And shock horror the record company always lost that bet.NB ~ I don't actually know Lambert, or if this story is true or just myth. It may just have been tattle from a kiwi band disgruntled they weren't charting better. Or couldn't afford a VCR for the bet (they were expensive in those days)

Nobody Important: S.O.P -- whassat?
Standard Operating Procedure!
this case smacks of detectives taking a look, deciding who the murderer was, and then building a case to convict him.
(me) ~ S.O.P

Here's a VERY interesting story about how even great comedians "borrow" other peoples stuff. Even people like Robin Williams and Dennis Leary!!

Here ya go Graeme:
I think he was, in an off-the-cuff way, saying something that we need to hear more. The press releases about our bands at SXSW or playing a big Waitangi Day gig in London, or having a track added a TripleJ or flying to some Sydney-side MTV bash with a bunch of hangers-on need to be put into perspective.
I've been saying exactly that for years, and been denounced bitterly as well. How much of the kiwi hype in UK media was produced by ex-pat kiwis? Weren't we flying them (and any other blaggers they round up) down here to attend special 'conferences' and 'showcases' in return for them telling 'our media' how kiwi music was on the cusp of global success?
Pieter Whatsername from NZ Fashion Week obviously learned something, as they similarly fly in ex-pats and 'influential' (as in 'not really') media to tell us how good our frocks are. Good on Karen Walker who's doing what needs to be done to crack it internationally but does anyone really believe Madonna walked into a NY store and said "I must have these jeans"??Everyone in a band should read this blog and think about.
It's worth repeating, so I have. Graeme your blog is spot on, but unfortunately too big for a T Shirt print.
No twice told tales please! Eh?, oops, sorry!
