It's a mystery how Melniboné FC ever managed to palm him off to another team in the first place.
After Stormbringer drank the referee's soul at Moorcock Green? Who didn't want to see that happen?

Interesting question. To the extent that the classic neo-cons were former lefties who went to the right for idealistic reasons, don't Prebble and Douglas count?

In another forum I frequent, there is the phenomenon of the "brand new day", where someone who has been banned or who has left voluntarily starts afresh with new handle, a clean slate, and the opportunity to forge a new identity.
This can be a good thing, but it depends on people resisting the urge to go Hey! X used to be Y! Let's pelt them with rotten fruit for their old sins!

Ah yes. There was no alternative.

Apropos Garrett: here's what I want to hear some left politician say.
Let's stipulate that we do have a problem with a bunch of people who drink too much, bash their kids, and lead stupid feckless lives. Let's stipulate that it's a bigger problem than it used to be. Things are different from when you and me and David Garrett were kids. Why is that?
Because in 1984, we shed huge numbers of jobs in this country and the most marginal, vulnerable working families went on benefits. Then in 1991, those benefits were cut. And what we see now is the people who were kids then, in families that broke under the strain, where the transmission of common sense and family know-how got disrupted, failing with their own kids.
Whose fault is that? Neolibs like Garrett's party, that's who.

Readjustment is one of those things like nose-picking and earwax inspection which everyone knows should only be done in private, but which aren't always under conscious control.

I am heartened to hear about this.
Here's some advice for the Society: remember that Family First and the Sensible Sentencing Trust are in the news all the time because:
- they have just one well-branded self-promoting spokesperson
- that person is always available for comment
- judging by Scoop, they average at least one quotable press release a week, sometimes more.Don't be backward in coming forward.
On a frivolous note, be prepared for people who think it's all about Fabio.

Pop quiz: WITHOUT using Google or other tool, can you name any other person convicted for the killing of Michael Choy? If not, why not?
(Kim Workman first posed this question).

as much as portions of the country just love the idea of Auckland getting thoroughly fucked by "the man",
Which portions are they? This Wellingtonian is absolutely concerned on your behalf, as is his Hamiltonian father when they talked last.
