I wonder what Telstra's response will be. Their tip top cable package in Wellington sucks. Always dropping out, never seeming to reach promised speeds. No-one on the phone to take calls from irate customers. Oh, and they refuse to peer.
*Everyone* I talk to on Telstra is unhappy, but we (as Paradise clients) got suckered into a long term deal.
I love to hear from others whether they think there is a breach of contract going on here and whether they have stripped out that damned black cable and replaced it with, well, Orcon.

Colin Espinar makes this comment to DPF over on his blog:
You’re not honestly going to argue with me that the Herald openly supports the election of a National government? Even its own reporters accept this is management’s position.
That's a pretty big call.
You will also notice DPF collecting stats for "media bias". Now there's an old canard about to rear its ugly head.

Craig, that would be news if RNZ offered a retraction, sorry, correction. People are always contacting media organisations to offer "clarification" and further comment.
This has been very different. First the local paper stands by its journalist and story through thick and thin and then, all of a sudden, APN retracts on local paper's behalf.
Given the "freedom of speech" mantra from that group you will pardon many of us for yelling - "hypocrites" in those directions.
-
Talking of political management, I see APN is curtailing freedom of speech of one of its publications.
No doubt DPF and his freedom loving buddies have a picture of Joe Stalin ready to go alongside the names of the perpetrators of this "retraction".

s/against foreign/against foreign investment
-
why hasn't anyone looked at how Heathrow, Gatwick and most of the other UK airports managed by BAA are owned by a Spanish company - and how this 'foreign takeover' is a non issue.
Have you used Heathrow over tha last 15 years? It is shit. Pathetic, awful.
BAA under invest in just about everything there, including ladders to get people off the flipping planes.
Not really a poster child for foreign investment. I'm not against foreign, but if NZ treats its visitors at main ports of entry the same way the UK does then I think we could kiss goodbye to a fair percentage of them. And tourism *is* strategic here.

And hence Hickey is flat out wrong about this case.
Yes, he often goes into excruciating detail which only serves to cover some of this "wrongness". Bernard Hickey's absolute and real strength is in analysing stuff from a business perspective, however, it is a micro rather than macro analysis. I would always go for Rod Oram for the broader picture.

Killer point. It would be nice to see the Herald's editors respond to that. Unfortunately, they don't respond to anything.
Well, the Government has responded. It's called the Cullen Fund and Kiwisaver. As a result of these two initiatives there *will* be more investment overseas which in turn will see more returns to NZ from those investments.
Private companies need to be encouraged to do their bit as well, both in the import substitution game and getting overseas.

Two not-quite-finished-as-yet blogs on the story behind my hiatus are coming up soon.
Oh, every time I see that GDP is on its way up I shudder at the thought of the input to this from the Haywood clan and BBQ associates. I suppose we should also be grateful...
