Getting back to the proposed "design" for a moment, I googled "waterfront stadium" and the first thing that pops up is a proposed soccer ground for Vancouver BC, granted it is smaller, 15 to be possibly scaled to 30,000 later , its essentially a 2 sided ground with a low end side glassed to the ocean, to be built over the railway tracks,
Cost $65 Million CAD, similar to the new "Arena"It quoted a vision of
The proposed stadium would be built above the existing railway tracks, which would offer fans breathtaking views of Burrard Inlet and the North Shore Mountains.
Wouldn't it be nice to have time to debate things like this properly :)
rather than having no choice in design for such an iconic area, -
While I am relatively indifferent to whatever the final outcome of any stadium is, The real concern I have is the arse about face way the process has been managed,
I mean, what did we go to the IRB with last year?,
Why has it taken a year since the awarding of the event for the Govt to come up with "Auckland has to choose in two weeks or we will give the final to Christchurch" - this seems very much a "do this or the bunny gets it...." approach to consultation
If the waterfront stadium is as great a part of the "economic transformation" of Auckland as we are led to believe, then why not take a longer time to actaully work out what Auckland need/want/can afford, - yes it may not be built for the RWC, but this stadium is being built for 50+ years future use, not one game,
Or is the only way things get done in this country a rush job for a special event when you get to roll over objections, rather than going through a RMA process (hmm never really thought I would ever end up defending the RMA :),

It will be great to finally have the "options" out in the open today, so that we can actually see what is being floated,
I hope that each option is costed and timed so we are comparing apples with at least some other form of pipfruit, otherwise it will come down to being a beauty contest,
I do wonder why this was whole debate did not happening in the immediate aftermath of the announcement, given that the upgraded Eden park was what they (Rugby and the Govt) won this prize on.
The whole, suspend the RMA for a rugby stadium, but you have to wait for power and new roads does not exactly bring confidence thou...

Renaissance are in the Herald today denying these rumours, ( it specifically mentions public address too :) ), and providing a distinct "no comment" to enything regarding iTunes....
-
The bag phone they show, until T/com announced they would pull the plug on 025, was still a very sought after item in rural areas as it had a 3w transmitter in it, most of the tiny phones today are only a couple of hundred mW,
Those original bad boys were designed for when cells were much larger, and thus were great for marginal coverage.

It will be *very* interesting to see which option is finally chosen for this, although I suspect that "creating a legacy" will favour something on the waterfront,
But the Govt will need to tread very carfully so they dont upset hordes of voters in Auckland, never looks good to be introducing road tolls to bring forward the western ring route, whilst finding new public money for a stadium that may only be full once or twice a year.
The property spruikers must be drooling over getting their hands on the eden park land .....

I guess the other option is that Apple are planning to set up a proper Apple NZ and shuffle Renaissance out of the game in terms of distribution.
Although If Renaissance knew about this they would have to disclose it to the NZX, as I think itwould be market sensitive,
SO maybe it just is the *long* awaited itunes, just in time for Christmas l Toto,

Speaking of Blake's 7 and expanding your vocabulary,
I was blobbing out watching an episode on DVD last week and heard the words, Vulpine, Eviscerate, and Perfidious all get used.
Yes, granted it was a particular eat the scenery shakespearian moment, but has the use of language declined so much in 20 years,
Heck you wouldn't even get words like that used most 1st year university papers these days, let along a "Kids" scifi...
