This is convincing.
I think you could also connect the open list issue with the threshold issue i.e. voters who don't like the way lists are constructed by a party will be better able to vote for other parties if the threshold is lowered or removed. As it stands that opportunity is reduced. It's a clear example of how the different parts of the system might interact.

You don't have to be an electorate candidate to stand up at a meet the candidates meeting and say “I'm not asking for your electorate vote, I'm asking for your party vote”
It doesn't seem unreasonable to limit an electorate race to people who actually want to represent the electorate.
It seems to me that these two points are contrary. If you're not an electorate candidate, surely the only rights you'll have at the candidates meeting is to ask questions as a member of the general public. Why should the Rotary give you a platform at their meet the candidates evening if you're not a candidate and the race has been limited to people who want to represent the electorate?

Indeed, we've known of tobacco's harmful effects for a few years longer than we've known that the Earth revolves around the Sun, if James I is any kind of authority.

We're not exactly sure, but the best guess is an Abyssinian/Burmese cross. She may be pretty and smart, but she's really racist. She hates all cats except other Burmese types.

Thanks! The gravatar is a photo I took at the aquariam in the Pittsburgh Zoo last year (erm, 2010, we're still in 2011 for the next 14 hours.) The turtle was at Akumal Bay, on the Yucatan Peninsula. The turtle photos look like I used retrofilters, but they were disposable underwater cameras loaded with 800 ISO film. When we got them back from being developed they actually smelled like fixing solution. I hadn't smelled that in years.
