Hard News: Mega Strange, in reply to
The Luminaries just makes the question a bit sharper in the context of local publishing. (It's harder to feel bad about sharing a Warner Bros film.)
NZ'ers really need to get over this attitude. Just because you're less likely to run in to the copyright holder down at the local farmers market doesn't make infringing actions any more moral. People regularly harp on about how stealing NZ content is terrible and unpatriotic, while at the same time merrily downloading Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones to their hearts content. It's bullshit and people need to get called out on it.

Hard News: A plea for sanity on the…, in reply to
And young people should take more of the rates burden "on their own shoulders" -- how exactly, if they're shut out of the housing market?
Of course, just because my name isn't on a property title/rates bill, doesn't mean I don't pay rates. My landlord does out of the rent I pay him.
Many Gen Z's would leap at that chance to pay their own rates, but can't, in large part because of greedy boomers who are all paying 5 sets of rates each on all their wonderful "investment" properties.

I note that for my school, they only link to an old ERO Report from 2008, not the latest one from 2011. Seems to be the case for a few others I quickly checked too.

So if I read the article Ian linked, Lees quit BDO because he didn't like what the nasty people on Facebook said about the shitty sub-par lineup?
Wow.

From Russell's Unlimited piece:
"just how have a group of young entrepreneurs so successfully tapped into a generation? And how do they do it when so many others have failed, none more spectacularly than last year’s Sweetwaters?"Steep contrast to today, where they seem hopelessly disconnected from this generation.

2001 clearly had the best Boiler Room line up. In pretty much exactly this order: Adam Freeland, Pnau, Pitch Black, Greg Churchill, Darren Emerson, Roni Size & Reprazent full live band, Carl Cox. Mind, I didn't stay for Coxy, I wandered off to dance to Concord Dawn while shirtless at the little wee temp stage knocked up out of plywood WAY over the back of the Supertop. Good times.
