It’s a sad set of circumstances. If she had paid it back beforehand, as you say, or even if she had stepped down as leader but remained on the list as late as Monday, the issue would not have been so destructive for the Green Party.
As it stands, she has set an example by resigning that Bill English should consider. He made a false declaration in order to claim housing benefits as an MP & a Minister, and relied on obfuscation and friendly oversight to avoid Metiria’s fate. He should not be shielded from the accountability that Metiria has so admirably, if belatedly embraced.

Jacinda has the intelligence, compassion and charisma to bring Labour back into government, but her elevation to leader may be too late for it to happen this time around.
I have been plumbing for Labour to make the change, but I also feel for Andrew Little, an intelligent, hard working and good person who lacks the public persona to capture the vote. We are such a fickle electorate in some ways.

To an extent yes, but it may be the case that America experiences quite substantive costs as a result of being an outsider of sorts to multilateral frameworks.
Agreed, and very well described in the rest of your post.

It’s not quite that bad. California is still on board. And Washington (state) and New York (state.)
Yes, It's good to see that some intelligent statesmen are speaking out and influencing policies in some parts of the USA.

Surely he knows this, but equally knows that his bloc of support does not?
Or am I giving the man too much credit?
I think you are giving him too much credit. He gets his alternative facts from Fox & friends. He really, truly doesn't have a clue, which makes this far more scary.
It will be up to the rest of us to solve the problem of anthropogenic climate change. The USA can thank us later.

Clearly we should conclude that Nicky Hager's book is substantially correct, and that the PM has plenty to hide. What a shameful affair.

Hard News: The long road to Hit and Run, in reply to
"Does "other people's war" mean no one in NZ cares or has any involvement?"
No. Our politicians tell us we send trained killers to help build infrastructure. They know that the NZ public would largely reject the idea of going in with guns blazing at civilians because an ally thinks that is the correct response to "terrorism". So when we find our representatives may have been involved in war crimes, it is appropriate to question whether or not our response is really in keeping with our values.
In this case war was not the correct response. It was someone else's response and we bought into it. Now we are suffering the consequences.

Interesting. What do you charge the artists for this service?

New Zealand feels harsher, colder and less just without Helen Kelly. RIP Helen. Arohanui.

Field Theory: Not doing enough, in reply to
Who were the “independent” witnesses who claimed that the stripper was not groped by Chiefs players?
As if there was anyone there who was not connected to them. #pffft
Agreed. I’m amazed that NZR thought they could get away with this bankrupt exercise, but maybe they thought that rugby gods should be judged by different standards from those applied to lesser mortals.
