  • Speaker: Sex, monsters and outrage,

Yes, I think that's a good argument in theory but it backfired here for at least one student. There's also the relieving teacher being asked to teach this vileness without the necessary skills or context. I've been a relieving teacher and it's often baby-sitting if you're taking something out of your field. Then there's the quality of the teaching and the vulnerability of the kids. I remember a science teacher showing one of those " the moon landing was a fake" videos in order to provide food for thought. A lot of the Year 10 kids believed it. Moreover, for me as an older adult and a firm atheist the material on the website was absolutely disgusting. I'd be shocked if one of my kids had been exposed to it even if it was to foster debate. I think it would take humongous teaching skills to put that in context. I suppose the pamphlet was a bit milder but not much. Then again I don't know the whole context. I just feel there might be one of John Key's beloved counter views here.

This from the organisation from which the pamphlet originated. I think it's sinister and that it's dangerous for Year 11 students to be exposed to anything by these people. Maybe at Year 13 in a very controlled environment. To enable a relieving teacher to use it is careless.

  • Hard News: About Campbell Live, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

I have just listened online to Kim Hill take Key to task and the Hooten/Williams show. Sounds as if Hooten got out of the wrong (Right) side of the bed this morning. He can sound quite rational but he was foaming at the mouth today. Reminds me of how he reacted when David Cunliffe was elected leader. Funnily enough one of his bugbears was Cunliffe's CV and how he claimed a role in the establishment of Fonterra.

It was wonderful to hear Kim Hill interview Key but unfortunately they went onto the Abbot thing which could be twisted in Key's favour, "that's why we need these agencies."

"At the end of the day" though, he and Hooten say Hager is a thief and liar then "everyone spies on everyone else anyway". So is Hager right or not, Mr Key?

but is willing to assume and use his position to sway the masses anyway – firm evidence that age does not bring wisdom…

He's not exactly an inspiring leader, is he?

That is good. And I have been watching Campbell Live after all this kerfuffle. After the disappointment of the first programme that had fluffy duck stories, I've enjoyed the following two and will go onto watch as a patriotic duty! I loved what Fran O'Sullivan said last night on the Daily Blog live-streaming event: Campbell live has "moments of brilliance".

    I just wish I had a peoplemeter.

Making money from making crap can't be all that satisfying ultimately. Reminds me of Theresa Gattung many years ago saying that profit to Telecom shareholders was more important than service for the customers.

And I watched CL tonight - better.
