I've always wanted to be composted -which isn't really allowed but there is a move to natural burials which I think suits me. NO icky chemicals etc. There was some ancient celtic (?) ritual which involved being painted red and placed in a foetal position in the ground which appeals. And a big party - no sad funerally thing

I guess I am one of those sad old people at 39 and wearing a hoodie (hey - its warm!). There is some local initiative for hoodie day with the slogan "its what's under the hood that matters" which makes absolute sense to me.

I am pleased to say Baby #3 (9 months) has been introduced to Joy Division and it works a charm - a definitely step up from #1 and her Metallica thing

I was not quite born when the Wahine happened but I clearly remember my Grandfathers 2nd wife who had been on the boat. They lived near the sea and whenever there was a storm she locked herself in the bathroom terrified and crying. It was awful.
I love the idea of freeview and am happy about TV Ondemand BUT there are those of us out there who can't afford dishes and decoders and don't have sky either. We are relegated to the 3 channels. We don't even get Prime here very well. Thank heavens for the internet and blogs. Seems good reception and a range of channels is another luxury item - like cheese.

I wasn't meaning to turn into "oh my kids is worse than yours" with the Metallica thing. I was just emaning weird how your kids like the music that you probably woudln't listen to in a million years. That Mettalica album is 'interesting'. I guess if you have money you can buy the San Francisco Symphony Orhestra. I have come to like the lyrics of that song though

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Gram Parsons - Oh Michelle Shocked 'Campfire Songs'. I have a dark secret place in my heart for roots bluegrass - just come down from the hills type , so maybe Doc Watson and Jean Ritchie if you want to go there...

The theme music for my first baby (to my horror) was "No Leaf Clover" by Metallica with the SF Symphony Orchestra. The ONLY thing that could soothe her. It was on a mix CD that I played one day and instantly worked. I would have been happier with bluegrass I think. Babies a demanding wee beasties eh? I had this bright idea when I had my second that I would do my masters as I would be at home with time on my hands - hahahaha. I did get part way through but put it all on hold when baby #3 arrived.

Being the aforemention single income, no hope of buying renter with small kids, we do the vegie garden thing. I find it relaxing, fresh, organic(ish) vege is great and I have discovered that my kids will eat anything that they have grown - even broccoli. Its not THAT economic but i get cuttings off friends, buy seedlings at the markets etc. Also we have had to cut back hugely on diary - who would ever have thought that home-made mac cheese would be a luxury? I do make my own yoghurt whihc is easily made into some fesh cheese by adding a bit of rennet, I barter occasionally for meat from a friend with a lifestyle block by helping with computer stuff. We live a modest, sustainable life (some might say austere) to save money and so I can stay home with the kids. we've just worked out that me going back to work full-time would hardly get us ahead further because of childcare for 3, transport costs and reduction (or loss) of working for families payments.
