Agree. I am so relieved. I wanted to change the flag, didn't like the 4 options so was faced with uncertainty about what and how to rank the options in the first referendum, before voting for the current flag in the second. Now I will be doing the same as you: putting Red Peak as number one option in the first ballot. And if it doesn't get through, then voting for the status quo in the second. What would help here is info about how to best strategically rank the other options in the first ballot. For example, can I just put 1 beside Red Peak and not rank any other options and still cast a legal ballot?

Hard News: About Campbell Live, in reply to
We regularly watch Campbell - pretty much every night live, the whole programme. We find that they usually have important and interesting stories. My daughter also reports regularly watching it. I was genuinely appalled to discover that the ratings were much lower than those of Seven Sharp which we have never watched. Ever. Well, two seconds, once. The whole thing is quite gutting really on a whole lot of levels.

Some people suggesting this might be a poaching opportunity for Māori Television ... After all, MTV is the closest we have to a public service channel.

Thanks for this Graeme. It answers the question that I'd just been thinking about. As you say, it highlights interesting aspects about our MMP system. Mauriora!

Arohanui June, and hugs. Thank you so much for writing about your experience. It's incredibly valuable for us to get a powerful inside glimpse of the dreadful process you've been through.

As someone living on TC3 land in Chch and near the Flockton Basin I have found the Facebook groups 'TC3 residents' and 'Canterbury's Flood Affected Residents' to be very useful and vital forums which are being used for information swapping, support and venting. These FB groups have been so important to many of us. There is also a TC3 Rebuild group for those who are rebuilding. As Gerard says, The Press have been amazing, and also Campbell Live.

Since 1982 I have had solar panels for heating hot water in two houses. On both occasions the installation costs were mitigated by the necessity of replacing the hot water cylinder anyway. The solar hot water heating is supplemented by electricity. In summer I turn the electricity option off. For the rest of the year I mainly have an 'auto' option where the water is heated up by electricity for a few hours before we wake in the morning for showers. That's enough for the two of us. Certainly, since it's often stated that water heating costs count for up to half of power bills, our power bills are much lower than other people's. In other words, it's a great investment, particularly so when you are need to replace the hot water cylinder anyway. The big option is whether you have a mains or low pressure system. I'd highly recommend talking to David Haywood who has expert knowledge in this area.

Looks like your anecdotal evidence is backed up by some research: White people become less racist just by moving to more diverse areas
