Hard News: The Advocate, in reply to
Fantastic. And good embedding skills, despite Sacha's teachings, I still haven't got it!

In their world, we are governed by misanthropes. Ministers are cold, hard rationalists who close schools, deny food to hungry children, take away trains, force beneficiaries to look for jobs, because they don't care.
Misanthrope might be a bit strong, but Mr. Roughan has the rest of it pretty accurately mapped out - it's not "their" world, I'd say it's the real world.

skeptics - forgot about that one! CDs and vinyl are still the relevant medium for me, I just haven't embraced the digital downloads at all.

My wish is definitely for the reissues........early headless chickens, early bailter space, maybe early everything!

Russell, I've seen Cat Power or Chan live I think 3 times and it can be a pretty harrowing experience watching her try and deal with being on stage even!
However I do "remember" them playing a summer series, 1999 I believe, with the two guys from the dirty three as the rhythm section. They came on after a blistering HDU set where unfortunately I may or may not have been imbibing too much alcohol (and maybe something else) in the bar area......while detail is scarce I do recall being blown away....
So here's hoping the terminal shyness is on the wane eh? Because she's got some very beautiful music.

Nice to see Big Matt remembered too.

Russell did you ever get to the Hayward? They don't have a set collection per se, just exhibitions (usually one free, one paying), but it's certainly my favourite.....mind you I am completely biased towards the entire southbank area!

Hard News: A right old Barney, in reply to
Actually in hindsight that’s a pretty good setlist! I was young and naive, and also just glad I was able to get in (being a very young looking 17)………I hadn’t quite grasped the beauty of the moodiness of New Order, having to live on a diet of 3 month old ship mail NMEs……

I went to the Bataclan gig, and it was great. They're notoriously fragile live, but have improved to more hit than miss, and Bernard's always hilarious. Although he seems to have gotten a bit more stadium rock in his audience banter. It's also good to see the new(ish) members take the piss out of him.
It should be a great gig, and they redo some old songs.....my recollection of last year was that it was beautiful, rich and warm. Which I definitely didn't have after seeing them in 1987 at the Galaxy - they played for 45 minutes and didn't speak to the crowd once.
God bless 'em.
Oh and post Hooky? Well, yeah, he's great, but he has been the antagonist on the surface of it so not too much sympathy - you won't notice he's not there in the music.
