I suspect something odious died upstream in the local water supply catchment…
also witness Michael Laws’ latest machinations – cui bono?
https://www.stuff.co.nz/otago/121838296/selfish-otago-regional-council-chair-slammed-for-forcing-threeweek-stasisI’m more interested in who else Boag has been grooming for doing ‘dirty-work’ – why else was she feeding private information to a callow stripling like Walker?
I wondered what was up on when she was pontificating in her cosy little ‘bully pulpit’ on The Panel (RNZ) last evening – she was tapping away angrily on her keyboard all through the show – now we know why!
I trust RNZ will no longer invite her on to The Panel – They should only have commentators of good character and principle. – I for one would welcome such a move – she always made my skin crawl with her constant dismissing of sense and self serving dog-whistles.
NEWSFLASH – Walker has withdrawn from the next election race – shame he won’t be able to try and disappear overseas for a while like the last ’useful idiot' in his electorate.

Over at Webworm, David Farrier has an Open Thread: is it more embarrassing to believe in Scientology, or QAnon?

The new Inverted version of _The Chase_ has got that same annoying part that makes _Tipping Point_ so irritating - repeating the question and answer and then repeating again as a question 'is that the right answer' then a pause - this only creates 'tension' once, after that it is just filler.
Don't think I'll watch it again. -

What was the most extraordinary thing you saw?
One really surreal moment was …. was when we arrived in Cape Adare and it was the middle of the night, but it was summer, so you’ve got this beautiful pastel pink light and everywhere you look you’re surrounded by Adele penguins and they’re running around chasing each other, dolphining through the water and riding icebergs and it’s a bit like showing up in Times Square, but you’ve got these crazy mountains and this pink light. It’s the closest I’ve ever felt to landing on an alien planet. That would be surreal and alien – all those singing Adele penguins!
Even that many Adélie penguins would be strange…

Well bringing people together would be helped by not running Andrea Vance pieces like this:
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/121247586/why-the-heroworship-of-jacinda-ardern-is-unhealthy—–
I just wrote to the editors:
Folks
What is with this Andrea Vance piece
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/121247586/why-the-heroworship-of-jacinda-ardern-is-unhealthy
she starts with an alleged quote:
"The Most Effective Leader on the Planet. Saint Jacinda, a leader for our troubled times. One of…the standout leaders of this crisis."
- a ‘quote” that can be found nowhere on the web aside from starting this unacknowledged OPINION piece.
the next paragraph;
"The global praise for Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s leadership during the coronavirus pandemic reads like the extravagant quotes transcribed on movie posters."
with an internal link to an Atlantic article
https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/04/jacinda-ardern-new-zealand-leadership-coronavirus/610237/
which does have the headline:
"New Zealand’s Prime Minister May Be the Most Effective Leader on the Planet"
That is **not** extravagant and is **not** what Vance’s lead “quote” says – that is pure ’dog-whistle’ and misleading.
It also ignores the Atlantic sub-heading :
"Jacinda Ardern’s leadership style, focused on empathy, isn’t just resonating with her people; it’s putting the country on track for success against the coronavirus."
The Atlantic article isn’t about ‘hero worship’ it is about ‘effective leadership’ – something Vance does acknowledge but then goes on to try and dilute and diffuse.
Please retain some perspective.

Hard News: Together Alone, in reply to
I wish Wallace would bluster less.
It feels like at least a tenth of of his 'air time' is "ummm, ahhhh, errr' and other space/time fillers - and lots of arrant nonsense getting people to text in on the slightest pretext - is that time-chewing or revenue gathering?
