  • Tony Kennedy,

Ok I will admit to picking us the latest issue of N&S for a free gander while in the Post Shop queue, some letters on the "Asian Angst" story inlcluding. one from Keith, with a rebuttal by DC of Keith's stats

I tried to find an online version but noy joy, however I did come accross this on http://www.acpmedia.co.nz/ACPMagazines/NorthSouth/tabid/127/Default.aspx

"Published monthly, North & South is the magazine for “Thinking New Zealand”.
It is a showcase of winning journalism, with a stable of writers who regularly scoop the pool at media awards."

The N&S "letter" of the month is provocative and unworthy of comment.

And please excuse Jarrod. He's from Coruscant.

I suppose everyone from Coruscant looks the same to you.

Next you'll be saying that all Hutts are criminals. Seriously bro, you shouldn't let a couple of bad apples taint the reputation of an entire people.

  • simon g,

    I'm another non-buying, supermarket peek-sneaker.

There were numerous letters criticising Coddington/N & S, and in persuasive detail. There was one supporting her, and not addressing any of the facts at all, from Deborah Pead. The smokescreen she chose was, of course ...

    drum roll ...

"Political Correctness". Well, Deb Cod had already used up "Latte-drinkers" in her own rebuttal.

Can't we all just get along? Is this what poor old Ben Kenobi died for?

0.5% of the population vote for an arbitrarily allocated portion of an 800-member Election Committee which has no subsequent responsibilities or means of accountability to its constituents which then elects the head of government which has no subsequent accountability to the Election Committee.

Inspired! Diabolical! Stole the idea off Babylon 5!

Jesus. Do you and Baker have nerd-offs or something?

  • David Cormack,

Whilst you all might find it well and good to make your nerdy star wars jokes in the safety of the interweb, I have to put up with Baker in person. He tries to get me to show him my dark side. And I don't even know if that's a euphemism or not.

Either that or to become more powerful than you can possibly imagine...

Jesus. Do you and Baker have nerd-offs or something?

Sometimes, but Keith always smokes me in the maths section.

but do you own 30 of the Star Wars books which carry on the story!!!

Ah... no. I did play the Xbox games though if that helps.

I have to put up with Baker in person.

I have no idea who David Cormack is.

And when did PA System turn into the playground of an all-boys high school? I've never been referred to by my last name so often.

  • Kyle Matthews,

Just to get the discussion totally back on (star wars) topic.

Is it just me, or does a dead Pinochet totally win the Yoda look alike competition?

    :'-(

Perhaps it would simplify your problem if you referred to them as 'emoticons'.

To pull this back on topic, you can get you Star Wars emoticons here.

Latest Asia NZ media newsletter gives N&S and Debs the burn.

    A fraction:

The ‘grab bag’ approach taken to include as many negative features that can be possibly associated with immigration from Asian countries including, quite unnecessarily, a single case of TB, presents a distorted, discriminatory and alarmist view of Asian communities in New Zealand.

So two questions loom: How did an article so biased and representative of prejudice against Asians get written by an “award winning journalist” (taken from an ACP media release) without paying due heed to the principles of balance and accuracy? And how did editorial processes fail to spot the inaccuracies and imbalance in the article before publication?

Yoda? I guess, quite a bit.... but almost 100% Jabba The Hutt I'd say.

  • Yamis,

A teacher friend/colleague of mine has spent the week at school showing the kids a one hour powerpoint presentation entitled "Star Wars as contemporary myth" or something close enough. He says it is going well with classes with plenty of kids who have seen Star Wars. Not so well with those who haven't.
