PS: are you this Peter Calder?
-
Am asking the question of the Peter Calder you linked to at NZ Herald.
-
Certainly if the Herald can't operate without Jewish operatives hounding innocent journos, I think we should be told.
-
Oh, he's that Calder all right. Not sure where that particular outburst came from, but he does a useful restaurant review from time to time.
-
Wow. I did cc: John Roughan. Let's see what happens.
-
Hey, I don't want people to feel persecuted at work for things they say on their own time, even if they are hateful and stupid.
-
The unsayable thing is that the endless power of the Jewish community, whose spokespeople walk caroeted corridors of the corporate world not the mean streets) to maintain the outrage rings bells on newsdesks.
Oh read your own fucking newspaper, you stupid stupid little man. The "outrage bells" seemed to have been most vigorously rung by the Museum itself and the RSA -- two organisations that have relationships with the media that do not depend on the Elders of Zion.
BTW, Finlay et. al.: I'm being a thin-skinned, pursed-lipped, professionally outraged pantywaist. Got a problem with that? Suck my 'roids.
-
And apropos the idiot Grammar lads -- isn't part of the handwringing the Facebook angle? If the Internet isn't allowing pedophiles to teach young people to make bombs, it's seducing them into attention-seeking transgressiveness, in photos, on the internet, online, where all the bad stuff happens, not like good honest newsprint... Everything teenagers do can be made worse in a news report by appending the words "on the Internet". For example, your children are having sex -- on the internet!
When I was at secondary school, acquaintances of mine formed a punk band (prepare for thread crossover) called Hitler's Cock. Strangely, the Waikato Times did not report on this.
-
Suck my 'roids
New levels of eewww. That's rare talent.

Same. It's not like an elected public position. Doesn't mean Peter can't be accountable right here for what he has said.
-
Hey Stephen do you know if Hitler's Cock made it to the stage? I have a feeling i may have seen Hitler's Cock at the Hillcrest Tavern a few years back.

Agreed.

Re tai chi
Wearing my scientist's hat I understand that, while the fall prevention program had some effectiveness tai chi is better and the stats are firm on that one. I can see the mechanism too. Walking is a very linear activity and if your exercise consists of walking carefully along smooth flat surfaces then your lateral muscles and ligaments will not be strong. Tai chi is a slow gentle program that asks you to stand on one leg, which can be a challenge for the elderly.
I'm mid 40s and a distance runner and a bit over a year ago I realised I had trouble standing steadily on one leg despite running 10miles not being any trouble. You can get away with not worrying about your adductors and abductors when you are young, as you age that luxury slowly leaves you.
In response I made myself a narrow, high wobbleboard and instigated core body strengthening. I try and do 20min on the wobbleboard once a week and have really felt the difference. Fewer little niggles and either side of my knees and ankles no longer plague me after 15+ miles.
My wobbleboard would be beyond most elderly persons, but Tai chi not so much but to much the same effect. If you have functional side to side muscles you will be more able to catch yourself if you lose your balance. There is nothing wrong with replacing something that works with something that works better. It used to be called progress.

If the Grammar boys had been taking the piss out of Maori (remember the engineers' haka party?)
Thirty years on, yes -- the anniversary was still news this year. I'm not sure that serves your argument well.
Mind you, it's a very poor argument to begin with.
-
Phil L- thank you!Am busy brewing up makutu/juju right now!
(I am kidding, but an ignorant steer of a man would deserve a beastly disease...)(However, the cattle dont.)
Peter A - what my mother found with Tai Chi was a realisation of body boundaries & tipping points. Especislly after one of my midwife sisters said, 'Now, that's one of your bubs right by your right knee- slowly slowly turn to pick her up and slowly slowly lift her to your heart." Bugger the balloons et al. Mums speak to one another - with an aiding ancient skill.
-
I'd always been a sceptic of Tai Ji until my Master 'August' invited me to try and tip him over at any stage of his routine (to no avail), It wouldn't be a bad thing for the rugby players too...fascinating Culture.

having listened on Morning Report to the explainations of Eric Kearley on why TVNZ has decided to run 135 party political broadcasts on behalf of the National Party, I have concluded he is a highly paid fucking idiot.
His lack of awareness of the historical context of the advertisment is an indictment of our continual use of foreigners to oversee programming on our state run TV channels and his refusal to admit he might not have a clue about New Zealand's near past tells me he is a mediocre administrator as well.
We have plenty of mediocre administrators who are actually bona fide New Zealanders and why our state broadcaster had to go all the way to Sweden to get one who adds cultural ignorance to his toolbox of medicocrity is quite beyond me.

Couldn't agree more -- Radio New Zealand really started going down the toilet when they gave that Pommie bitch Kim Hill a job.
-
Good morning Craig! Lovely day isn't it? Or is that one dark rain cloud I spy away yonder directly over your house?
I am glad you agree with me about Mr. Kearley.
However, Kim Hill has lived here since she was fifteen, was educated here and therefore I find your criticism of her rather unfair.

But she's a foreigner, Tom and while we're on the subject we should stop sending journalists overseas to ruin perfectly good media outlets like the BBC, Al-Jazeera English, The Guardian, and pretty much every major news operation in Australia. How can they be expected to understand the "context" of other countries, Tom?
And I rather doubt that Russell would agree that Media 7's quality is grossly affected by the production skills of a dirty, stupid Ocker.
hey, I've just to laugh at people -- whether on the loony left or the rabid right -- who feel the need to season their paranoia with good old fashioned xenophobic ranting about evil foreigners.
-
@ Matthew Littlewood:
Interesting; thanks.
-
Oh Craig
Reminds me of.......
Paul Holmes anyone???
-
Any how here's Kim & Peter last year.

I can't work out if his racist rant is an honestly held position or a cynical conversational hand grenade dropped on the thread as he left it.
Trying to put logic to it is probably the wrong thing to do anyway.Gotta remeber this journalists career has followed the path where he now write resturant reviews, not indepth investigations. Why I've never heard about his novel about a 50yr old man travelling with his 80yr old mother before means he is an obvious victim of a conspiracy.

John Cleese is far too tall...

All this hounding of Peter Calder is making me feel a bit sick. Can we knock it off? If you read a newspaper on occasion, you would know that Calder is arguably NZ's best regularly published film critic, a very good theatre critic and feature writer and -- behind the scenes -- an excellent sub-editor. Can't he express an opinion that differs from yours without being subjected to personal attacks like the above?
