very useful having a toll-free line to Auckland, and a loading dock to store boxes of vinyl and covers until any passing band could take them down to Chchch or north...
and long lunches for doing the record stores orders or picking up from pressing plant or printer....Fun times - Mr Double may well remember some of the long largely liquid lunches we had...
I seem to recall helping out on the odd deadline for In Touch and with some graphics (at a house inMt Victoria) - maybe I'm persona non grata with Gary these days...

Pretty sure I saw it in a double feature at the Avenue in Riccarton (perhaps part of a uni arts festival - not that I went to uni)
It came after Morgan, a suitable case for treatment - also starring David Warner. -

And we mustn't forget Sandie Shaw (except for that bloody awful Puppet On a String). I guess she finally earned enough to buy shoes.
She rates a mention in the piece I did for Audioculture, about when she toured NZ with the Pretty Things in the 1960s.

I remember Morgan. It was good, as I recall. Also saw Lindsay Anderson's If at a Film Soc screening last week and that remains impressive, I think it might be the film where Tarantino got the inspiration for his series of fantasy-revenge movies.

I would love to have been able to go tonight, but cannot make it. I saw the Selector (along with Madness and the Specials) at a dancehall in Bournemouth in 1979. A wonderful night. I would have been the oldest person in the room at 31 and a dancing fool.

Working for a newspaper in an Arab Gulf state in the 1980s and had the chance to interview Ms Black while she was doing a one-night only show - but unlike the generous Elaine Paige and Barry Humphries she wasn't in the mood, even though the interview had been previously arranged.
"Come back after the show," was the message. "She'll see you then." Yeah, right, an interview with someone who at that stage was a bit of a has-been, at midnight, or later. Checked with my editor, an Englishman, who basically said "forget it". So I forgot it. My near-brush with Cilla Black. Saw her across a crowded room, for an instant.

He played that at this year's Auckland show and I just about imploded with joy. A very great favourite of mine.
Cilla-related note: I once saw a drag performance of "Step Inside Love" at Alfie's, about, uh, 25 years ago.

I'm pretty sure I was there, or at least saw the same show at some point.
Also, this ITV special from last year has the full 50 years of Cilla Black's career to date. Don't think it was linked earlier, but apologies if it has.

Killer moments: Always Something There To Remind Me, Girl Don’t Come, Wight is Wight, I Don’t Need You Anymore (with The Smiths) and Had A Dream Last Night (B-side of the aforementioned Puppet). Sandie is cool.
Talking of which Sandy Edmonds’ Daylight Saving Time was the business locally (unpublished pic I found today here) although her voice didn’t come close to Cilla’s or Sandie’s.

I've gorra lorra time for Sheridan Smith, who is big on the London stage and amusing on Twitter. Gave a charming performance in Gavin & Stacey as the onscreen sister to her then-boyfriend James Corden, like in this scene, a carpark rendition of Kanye's rap from Estelle's 'American Boy' single. Actually I prefer Corden & Smith's version:
