Great photos of the Hikoi, Damian. I remember reading that Ans Westra was there that day. To take 100 photographs at an event, in the rain, with a Rolleiflex ... complete mastery of the camera.

Too modest, Ian. But it is time for a cuppa (coffee), agreed ...

I didn't see her there that day, but I've often been out and about when she's been shooting in Wellington. I think we were both taking pics at the Free Burma Rally in Welly some years back. For a tall woman, she just shuffles quietly around, snapping away, I love watching her work.
And I love her work too of course. I 'discovered' her myself only 6-7 years ago really, and now own any number of her books (including Washday, which cost me a pretty penny), school journals, and thanks to an interview (transcribed here) I also have hanging in pride of place at home the third photo down on that interview - the young Maori boy singing into the edmonds baking powder tin at the front of the class, from 1963. I've got a Rollei of my own too, although I don't get to use it much these days, when I do, I love the results.

Ah, Damian, many thanks to you for that link to your earlier interview with Ans. Very nicely done. She recently showed some new photos of Cuba Street at the Thistle Hall gallery, but it opened one day and closed the next, gone before I could get there.

I was just thinking that the brief you gave, Jackson, was to post our best shots of 2011.
Whoops! I missed that bit when I posted my city scenes last night. I'd figured that was the theme for this thread, not a review of the year. If it's the latter then...

merc,
Yeah my Steve on High St scene was not 2011, always outside brief me.

Jackie and here I was thinking it was City scene, best shots 2011. Now by my thinking , Auckland City envelopes one hell of a big wide space and stuff, so your wee girl, being part of Auckland an' all, qualifies. Go for it.
I'll look ,I promise :) -

Sorry, yeah I too thought the brief was street scenes.

Oh oh oh. I have never wanted babies. Not once have I yearned for them. But I do like looking at them, and holding them, and such. What an adorable wee person your Harry is. Edible.

Well, he's learnt to respond to you quickly ;). He is lovely.

My favourite, since we went there. The beach in shot is also my wākāinga. (is that correct usage?)

Sorry, yeah I too thought the brief was street scenes.Hey, I’m never one for sticking to briefs. Street scenes or 2011. Whichever takes your fancy.
Anyhoo, lovely shot Damian. It takes me back 7 years, and then 9 when the twins arrived. All your Christmases really have come at once.
D is next I guess.
PS. I’m just seeing if you can all leave that alone. ;-)

Gee that's lovely Damian. Enjoy.

Yuck, now that's an image I didn't want.

Ha, indeed. And that's why I chose that shot for our thank-you cards, because I like the idea of my son sticking his tongue out at dozens of our friends and whanau. Speaking of which, is Keystone still the appropriate place to find you?

2011 was also the year when I was lucky enough to explore two Pacific Islands, Rarotonga and Samoa. Places that time forgot:
I like the idea that there's a container ship containing all the remaining Blue Stratos that's been circling the Pacific since the 1970s.

Ohope looking good - and for the next generation, it would seem their turangaringaringa rather than turangawaewae?
