It's cold enough that on other sections of the lake I've seen what certainly look like car tyre marks, but I haven't had a safe place to stop and check. But don't worry, I've spent too many winters up here to not be keeping warm.
The trees all lined up are poplars. The old ones were cut down two years back, and these are the saplings that replaced them. Give them a few years and they'll be providing nice summer shade. And considering the former corn fields to the left have been fenced off and are being planted in more poplars, it could soon become a hellish place for a couple of weeks in spring as the poplars shed their seed fluff, but a very cool place to escape the summer heat. But we plan to be back in NZ long before the trees get that mature.

And nah, this is what cold looks like. Norwester came through last night, cleared the air out.
Made for a beautiful dawn, though. Those little bumpy bits in the background are the peaks of the Jundushan, the mountain range that separates us from Beijing.

Baby with butterfly wings. Well, she's not really a baby any more, but toddler with butterfly wings just doesn't have quite the same ring to it, does it?
She loves striking a pose, she's got it down to a fine art. Then after a few poses she runs up to the camera to see how good (or bad) a job I did. A very exacting model, she is.

Police art:

Many thefts occur here. Please pay attention to protecting your valuables.”I like how Chinese police post notices like this, either notices or reminders or pleas for locals who may have witnessed an incident in the area to come forward.
And you think you know road signs. This is a road sign.
"Songyu North Road"
Songyu means "pine elm", but I don't think that's a kind of tree, I guess pines and elms were common in the area until they got chopped down. The area is a bit old to have been named by an avaricious but uncultured real estate developer.

Highlight of today's trip - anti-smoking propaganda, China style.
男 means male, man, masculine. 男人(nánrén) means man or men. Full slogan (white characters along the top + 男人) reads "Cut off the cigarette in your hand, go back to being a real man". On the wall of Yanqing County Hospital. It's art, at least, sorry about the lack of a street, but I'd certainly like to see more of these around.
And what the hell, it was a great view from the hospital window.

I met this couple of colourful characters outside the Gisborne Contract Bridge Club.
Wider shot reveals the secret of their cheerfulness despite being out in the midday sun on one of the particularly warm days a week ago.Alas! I saw the cheerful pansies looking a bit the worse for wear a week later, then next time - someone had taken offence at the irregularity and like many an item of street art before it, obliteration!
Tar and Cement (1966, Verdelle Smith) came to mind –
"where were the lilacs and all that they meant
nothing but acres of tar and cement" (well, sort of ...) -

Thanks, though I think I should warn you she has quite a fiery temper, too...
And I'm told that when I was out setting off the New Year morning fireworks - just to make sure Nian gets the message - that she was bouncing up and down, hands in the air, shouting "Yeah! Yeah!" with the roar of the crackers. When my wife asked her if the fireworks were scary, she said "Scary!". If only she'd taken a video of that.
ETA: Very interesting wall. I'd definitely not be brave enough to attempt that kind of art until well after the shooting has finally stopped.
And this morning's fireworks. I'm very happy with my new phone. No way I could've done that with my crappy old Nokia.
